Making Strides Needs You!

AMTA-Nebraska Community Outreach Team

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Sunday Oct 15th, 2023

What is the Community Outreach Team (COT)?

The Community Outreach Team (COT), formerly known as Community Service Massage Team (CSMT), is a chapter committee that is designed for sponsoring community outreach events.

All members, in good standing, are eligible to participate. As a chapter, we hope to collaborate with other organizations and include our massage therapy touch during the event.

Why we chose to collaborate with American Cancer Society?

Kim Adams Johnson, your chapter’s current board member, stepped into the coordinator role to help get the ball rolling with this committee. She reached out to organizations in our state to see what community activity they have scheduled.

Upon gathering this information, she presented it to the AMTA-NE board and after glancing over them and our working calendar, we chose to collaborate with the American Cancer Society and offer chair/table massages for participants at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Each year, about 240,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women and about 2,100 in men. In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685,000 deaths globally. As of the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women, alive, who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 5 years, making it the world's most prevalent cancer. We feel privileged to be able to help celebrate the survivors, and honor those who have passed, by offering massage therapy at this event.

Come celebrate with us!

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk will host over 175 survivors and over 1000 attendees. The more hands we have, the more touch we can share with the participants. October is Breast Cancer Month, plus October 22nd - 29th is National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, we all get to celebrate together.

Ideas for future events

We would love your input for future events! This committee is versatile and we can create events in any part of the state. If you have an event you feel our chapter could participate in, please reach out to us at nebraskaamta@gmail.com
