The Assembly of Delegates convened on August 20 in Dallas, TX. While no new position statements were proposed, two key discussion topics were addressed. Trauma and Massage Therapy The conversation focused on current trauma-related education available at both entry-level and continuing education levels, and strategies for effective communication that establish safe boundaries for both clients and therapists. AMTA Mentoring Program Delegates noted that awareness of this program among members is very limited. Increasing visibility and accessibility was identified as a priority. Discussion also highlighted the value of peer-to-peer mentorship, future goals for strengthening and expanding the program to better support member development, and approaches for integrating trauma education more fully into professional practice. A full report from the meeting is attached.

If you’re new to the chapter and wondering just what a delegate does for our chapter, here’s a brief summary of the basics. The delegate’s role involves advocating for collective interests, shaping discussions, and ensuring that their state’s members' voice is heard.
How do we accomplish this?
Our responsibilities will vary depending on the current health of our profession, but here is a breakdown.
Professional Representation: Each delegate represents their specific state and has a strong pulse of the profession and communicates all relevant perspectives to the AMTA National Assembly of Delegates (AOD) group. We have discussions online, webinar, and one in-person meeting held the day before AMTA National Conventions.
Active Participation: Engage in discussions, ask insightful questions, and contribute to decision-making processes.
Networking & Knowledge Sharing: Delegates build connections with other professionals, exchange ideas, and bring back valuable insights to the state chapter.
Legislative Influence: Delegates need to stay current on legislative issues within their state and at the national level to make best informed decisions.

Thank you!
Becky Ohlson, AMTA-NE Chapter Delegate
