Course Description
The course provides a more specific understanding of how the organs’ physical functions and positions affect the body as a whole as well as a comprehensive approach to understanding, assessing, and releasing visceral restrictions. Integrating a number of mindbody perspectives, it also explores the extensive relationships among the organs, meridians, emotions, structure, function and common pathologies associated with organ restriction. The body’s structure, function, posture, emotions, consciousness, pain patterns and physiological function depend on healthy organs and healthy organ movement. And vice versa: issues in these other areas can impact organ health. This course takes an integrative and holistic approach to visceral work, and provides a comprehensive overview of these interrelationships as well as a means to assess and address the organs through massage. To deepen the students' understanding of the organs, there is an experiential movement component utilizing the Franklin Method approach of dynamic imagery, anatomical embodiment and educational skills to create lasting positive change in body and mind. Each organ has its own movement and rhythm cycles (motility). They also each have movement patterns with the breath cycle as well as movement of the body (mobility). Students experience the organ movement (or lack thereof) and learn how to restore these movements and release the fascia and congestion that restricts the organs. Visceral Dynamics integrates and utilizes concepts from: Structural Integration, Visceral Manipulation, Applied Functional Science, The Franklin Method, and Chinese Medicine
